Words of War
(2003)
project resulted in a portfolio of broadsides that addressed individual concerns and attitudes about war. Clarksville is a city largely defined by military conflict because of its relationship to Fort Campbell Army Base. Personal attitudes about war are not openly discussed and this silence seemed particularly noticeable at the onset of the second Iraqi Conflict. In July 2003, fifteen individuals (college students, teachers, veterans, teenagers, army wives, senior citizens etc.) met to discuss and write about war. Professors Barry Kitterman and Cynthia Marsh worked with this eclectic group of citizens to produce fifteen very public posters that relay fifteen very private ideas about war. An APSU Faculty Research Grant funded ‘Words of War’.
